I and a friend have sometimes talked about Wyoming seceding from the union. I think we were joking, but…
CHEYENNE — State representatives on Friday advanced legislation to launch a study into what Wyoming should do in the event of a complete economic or political collapse in the United States.
House Bill 85 passed on first reading by a voice vote. It would create a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.
The task force would look at the feasibility of Wyoming issuing its own alternative currency, if needed. And House members approved an amendment Friday by state Rep. Kermit Brown, R-Laramie, to have the task force also examine conditions under which Wyoming would need to implement its own military draft, raise a standing army, and acquire strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier.
The bill’s sponsor, state Rep. David Miller, R-Riverton, has said he doesn’t anticipate any major crises hitting America anytime soon. But with the national debt exceeding $15 trillion and protest movements growing around the country, Miller said Wyoming — which has a comparatively good economy and sound state finances — needs to make sure it’s protected should any unexpected emergency hit the U.S.
Several House members spoke in favor of the legislation, saying there was no harm in preparing for the worst.
Hey, I’m for Alaska, Montana, North and South Dakota, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas all seceding and forming a new country called the United States of Freedom. Let California, Oregon and Washington be a new country, probably called the Utopian Welfare State Federation and the NE States become part of Quebec. Maybe call it Quebama. The SE could be allowed to join the United States of Freedom on a state by state basis.
The USF would have a pipeline of Canadian oil to Texas refineries, a great sea port at Houston, and lots of mountains and wilderness. We’d have cheap gas and liberty. Great health care too, Texas has medical schools and great hospitals and universities. Why not?
Teton County, Wyoming might want to be a part of Quebama, I guess we could allow that. It’s already sort of an outpost. I’d have to move though. Alberta and the Yukon Territory might want to become part of the USF. That would be really cool. Vancouver would join the UWSF and the rest of B.C. would go to the USF. Oh, I’m getting giddy.
Only downside I can see is the cost of building the Great Wall of California, not to keep people out but to keep the rest of us from being flooded with refugees.
