That anti-Trump ad said to be an attack on Trump’s wife…

meet Melania Trump

This ad was made and presented by a Super Pac operating under the name of “Make America Awesome.” It’s affairs are run by a Republican strategist named Liz Mair. Ted Cruz has been severely criticized for this ad. He doesn’t deserve to be criticized for this, and here’s why.

First of all, the ad did not come from the Cruz campaign. Ted Cruz has nothing to do with the Super Pac that sponsored it. Under Federal law he is not supposed to coordinate or have anything to do with a Supre Pac that supports him. Second, Ted Cruz has denounced the ad. Actually, he probably shouldn’t have done that. No coordination, no communication, remember? Even denouncing what Make America Awesome does might be risky, especially when political eneimies are on the hunt.

But here is the big reason. The ad is not an attack on Melania Trump. The ad is not an invasion of her privacy. The ad does not present Melania Trump in a false light. The photo in the ad presents Melania Trump as she presented herself when she posed for the photo and agreed must have wanted that it get wide distribution. The photo was done for self promotion to further her career as a model or whatever other goals she was pursuing at the time.

Donald Trump had to have known about this photo when he married Melania Trump. He probably knew about hundreds more just like it. Maybe that’s at least partially the reason for his attraction to her. For him to now claim that the ad is an attack on his wife is absurd.

Moreover, Ted Cruz had nothing to do with it. Morever again, It was Trump who first claimed he was going to publish some dirt about Cruz’s wife. We still don’t have that secret information and there probably isn’t any. This was just a vicious innuendo by Trump designed to make people think Heidi Cruz had something in her background that would embarrass her. It was the classic cheap shot.

Now Trump is claiming Ted Cruz has some dirt in his background, five mistresses or some such nonsense. Remember that old Wendy’s ad by Clara Pella? Here’s is what should be said to Donald Trump and his attack on Ted Cruz:

The theme song for Trump’s campaign should be Don Henley’s Dirty Laundry:

Well, I coulda been an actor
But I wound up here
I just have to look good
I don’t have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers
In everybody’s pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

You don’t really need to find out
What’s going on
You don’t really want to know
Just how far it’s gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

We can do the Innuendo
We can dance and sing
When it’s said and done
We haven’t told you a thing
We all know that Crap is King
Give us dirty laundry
