Wikipedia has compiled a list of Republicans who opposed the 2016 Donald Trump presidential campaign. This list includes Republican political office holders, state and federal government officials, academics, journalists, authors and commentators, and business leaders. All are self-described Republicans. The list is long. So long I was shocked when I first looked at it. I had no idea. I thought I knew who most of the Never Trumpers were.
The list is not perfect. It doesn’t indicate how many or who on the list changed their position after Trump won the election. Many did, and those are not “Never” Trumpers. The list includes journalists which would skew the list if it included all journalists who hate Trump, but they say it includes only Republican journalists. If so, I don’t know why they included Republican journalists that hate Trump. Do they both hate him or only one of them?
Those who opposed Trump are Never Trumpers only if they have declared themselves so and remained so after he was elected. I suspect the list would be much shorter if compiled that way, but there will still remain a lot more than I ever imagined.
I guess that shows one more impediment that Trump overcame.
The Never Trumpers are a despicable bunch. They trashed trump on policies they have always claimed to support, but refused to support just because it was Trump winning the struggle to put them in place.
Julie Kelly ends her brilliant column, Never Trump’s Complicity in Trump-Russia Collusion Hoax, with this:
What the Trump-Russia collusion hoax has laid bare is that so many of the people who Republicans trusted and respected for two decades were undeserving. They are as fundamentally dishonest and intentionally ignorant as the those on the Left. Their animus for the president and his supporters exceeds that of the most faithful Democratic partisan. Their eager participation in the greatest political scandal in American history—intended to overthrow a Republican president—should never be forgotten. Or forgiven.
