We live in a time Robert Heinlein dubbed the “Crazy Years.” In 1940 Heinlein predicted a future period of “crazy years” to create a structure for his science fiction stories. He described the crazy years as a time of “Considerable technical advance during this period, accompanied by a gradual deterioration of mores, orientation, and social institutions, terminating in mass psychoses in the sixth decade, and the interregnum.”
Science fiction writer John C. Wright posted a long essay on his website back in January, 2010 that is well worth reading. This is a relevant excerpt on how a society enters into a period of “Crazy Years.”
The main sign of when madness has possessed a crowd, or a civilization, is when the people are fearful of imaginary or trivial dangers [man-made climate change] but nonchalant about real and deep dangers [political correctness run rampant, Korean Nukes, attempts to ban freedom of speech, kangaroo court show trials without any semblance of due process for men accused of sexual assault on college campuses, Antifa violence, the Left-wing War on Cops, illegal immigration that is more accurately an invasion, a $24 Trillion National Debt presently increasing by over $100,000 every 4 seconds, just to name a few of the calamities our betters in Washington D.C. have either created or permitted to happen]. When that happens, there is gradual deterioration of mores, orientation, and social institutions—the Crazy Years have arrived.
Craziness can be measured by maladaptive behavior. The behavior the society uses to solve one kind of problem, when applied to an incorrect category, disorients it. When this happens the whole society, even if some members are aware of the disorientation, cannot reach the correct conclusion, or react in a fashion that preserves society from harm. As if society were a dolphin that called itself a fish: when it suffered the sensation of drowning, it would dive. But a dolphin is a mammal, a member of a different category of being. When dolphins are low on air, they surface, rather than dive. Putting yourself in the wrong category leads to the wrong behavior.
DACA is the abbreviation for Obama’s unconstitutional executive order n June, 2012 ever so cutely titled “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.” How do we know it was unconstitutional when Obama did it? Well, because we can read the Constitution and see for ourselves that the President does not have the power to make laws. That power is given exclusively to Congress under Article I, Section 1, which says:
All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.
It does not say the President can make new laws by executive order. Obama himself acknowledged on multiple occasions that he was not a king and could not ignore or create his own immigration laws. Then in a matter of days after the last time he made that statement, he did it anyway. With an executive order he created DACA over which the president and Congress are now trying to modify. This is foolish. Nobody should be trying to modify an illegal act. No C0ngress should base legislation on the premise that a previous deed by a dishonest president was legal when it was not. Republican Senators, such as Cory Gardner of Colorado, debase themselves and their party by pretending otherwise.
Actually, ever since the Magna Carta of 1215 the King can’t ignore or create his own laws either. Those who tried met ignoble ends. Charles I was found guilty of serially breaking the laws of Parliament. He was deposed and executed in 1649. The English Glorious Revolution of 1688 established once and for all that the king cannot ignore laws passed by Parliament. The next king who tried, George III, wasn’t executed or even de-throned, but he did cause Britain to lose the American colonies.
Commentary on the DACA controversy frequently notes that the nation’s nearly 700,000 so-called Dreamers are a law-abiding group. But a new bill to give DACA recipients full legal status, sponsored by Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jeff Flake and Democratic Sens. Richard Durbin and Chuck Schumer, would allow newly legalized Dreamers to have many run-ins with the law — arrests, charges, convictions — and still receive benefits. Schumer, the Democratic leader, is demanding quick passage.
Former President Barack Obama’s original 2012 executive action creating Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals stipulated that to be eligible, recipients must have “not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor offense, multiple misdemeanor offense, or otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.” When Obama announced the criteria for renewing DACA status in 2014, the standard was “have not been convicted of a felony, a significant misdemeanor or three or more misdemeanors, and do not otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.”
With the Dream Act of 2017, Graham, Flake, Durbin, and Schumer (the “Four Flakes”) have adopted much of Obama’s illegal executive order from June, 2102 but have gone much farther by expanding the numbers of those who will be and remain eligible for legal status. The Dream Act of 2017 will allow those with serious criminal histories to remain eligible. Immigrants who came to America legally and hold green cards are actually held to a higher standard of conduct in order to remain in America than those who will be legalized under this new law the Four Flakes are trying to pass. The Act’s supposed ban on anyone convicted of a felony goes beyond that contained in the illegal Obama executive order and also contains such a gigantic loophole many of those would receive legal status could commit several categories of felony offenses, such as Identity theft, and still keep their legal status.
Republican Senators Cory Gardner of Colorado and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska have signed on as co-sponsors of this farcical proposal. Law-abiding Americans would actually be better off if Obama’s illegal executive order were simply left in place. That illegal executive order happened and will now be approved and extended into new territory by the Game of Morons in Washington D.C. because we are living in the “Crazy Years.”
