I’m not shocked to learn Democrats hate the First and Second Amendments because I know they don’t like free speech and they don’t want anyone to have a gun to exercise their natural right to preserve their own life, but I am surprised to learn they hate the Fifth Amendment protection of the right to due process of law as well. That one says no one can be dreprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. I wonder if they want to keep the part of the 5th Amendment that allows them to avoid having to talk to the police or give self-incriminating testimony. I guess they forgot that part but I’m sure they wouldn’t like to give it up since so many of them seem to need it pretty often.
Here’s Democrat Senator from West Virginia Joe Manchin saying “due process” is a big problem that makes Americans less safe. Yes, he really does say that, watch:
We all saw how the gang of 15 Democrats staged a “sit-in” if the House or Representatives yesterday over not getting any support for their proposal to take guns away from anyone on the no-fly list or the terrorist watch list. To do that would violate the Second and the Fifth Amendment because these infamous lists contain names of people who have done nothing wrong, we don’t know the exact criteria for putting anyone on the list or if any criteria even exists. If your name is on the list you can’t find out why and there is no way you can get your name removed. It seems names can be added to these police-state-style lists for no reason at all. Thus to automatically deprive someone of Constitutional rights because their name has been added to a list would violate due process of law. So what? say these Democrats.
Kevin William writes Democrats Abandon Due Process of Law
In September of 2014, Senate Democrats voted to repeal the First Amendment. They were enraged by a Supreme Court decision holding that ordinary constitutional protections for free speech prohibited the government from punishing political activists who had shown a film critical of Hillary Rodham Clinton in the run-up to the 2008 presidential election. This was a straightforward case of classical political speech — critics of Mrs. Clinton arguing that she’d make a poor president and distributing a film making that case — and Democrats, including every single Democrat in the Senate, insisted that that isn’t what the First Amendment is intended to protect.
Williamson’s whole article should be read by anyone who still cares about the rule of law in Amnerica. In the paragraph quoted above he is talking about Democrat hatred of the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Citizens United Case.
The Democrat party has abandoned the notion of procedural justice in pursuit of substantive outcomes demanded by its supporters, the rule of law be damned. Anyone who loves justice and liberty should be very concerned about one of our major poltical parties sinking into this sort of authoritarian ruthlessness.
