Claire Berlinski On Why Margaret Thatcher Matters

The video of Glenn Reynolds interview of Claire Berlinksi at PJTV [Reynolds video no longer available but see the video below, TeeJaw 6-3-2012] is well worth watching. It’s about 12 minutes. Berlinski wrote There is No Alternative: Why Margaret Thatcher Matters. I read it when it was first published and I couldn’t recommend it more. If you like Margaret Thatcher (how could you not?) you will love this book, which is now available in paperback. It is good, good, good.

Britain was a mess in 1979 when Margaret Thatcher became prime minister. She advocated for a return to free markets not only because free markets are more efficient, but because free market capitalism is morally superior to state-run socialism. Britain flourished under Thatcher’s privatization of industry. Even today, while it is sinking again no one is advocating the nationalization of industry. That change has stuck, thanks to Margaret Thatcher.
