Koo Koo Ka-Choo, Mrs. Robinson
Either this sort of thing didn’t happen all those many decades ago when I was 17, or it just didn’t happen to me. If it had been offered, given what I remember of being a boy of 17, I probably would have cheered on the cheer mom. Knowing what I know now, though, I’m glad no such offer ever came my way. I think it would have jaded me more than I already was.
Anyway, Mrs. Gibney was caught performing a sex act on her cheerleader daughter’s football star boyfriend in a car illegally parked in a public park. It appears all elements of the crime were personally observed by the arresting officer. I think prosecutors call that a “slam dunk.”
The boy and the daughter are students at Pottsgrove High School, a suburb of Philadelphia. Gibney has been charged with corruption of minors, disseminating obscene material to a minor [for texting semi-nude photos of herself to the football star], and trespass by automobile. The last one is a misdemeanor, the other two are felonies. I assume “performing a sex act” means just what you think it means. Maybe Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky can be called as expert witnesses at her trial to give their professional opinion that what she was doing does not constitute sex.
I don’t have a female perspective on this, but I don’t think I’d want to be Mrs. Gibney’s daughter, and I’m sure I wouldn’t want to be Mrs. Gibney’s husband, who is reportedly trying to get on with his life. Right.
I wonder if this case will be treated differently than it would if it had been Mr. Gibney with one of the cheerleaders?
