Charlie Manson should have been hanged, but instead he was allowed to live out his life with prison friends, eating and sleeping and watching television. His victims suffered grievously before they died a painful death way before their time.
Charles Manson, one of America’s most infamous mass killers whose 1960s cult led his followers down a path of murder, anarchy and “helter skelter,” is gravely ill at a California hospital, according to published reports.
The 83-year-old inmate, serving multiple life sentences at a prison in Corcoran, Calif., has struggled with gastrointestinal problems and been shuttled back and forth to hospitals in recent years. TMZ reports that he was brought to a Bakersfield hospital three days ago and is facing life-threatening ailments.
Manson, noted since the 1960s for a crudely carved swastika on his forehead, has been in the annals of American criminal lore since he dispatched a legion of cult followers to carry out brutal attacks in and around Los Angeles.
Manson has people around him keeping him comfortable in his final days. His victims had no such comfort and their final days dawned on them several decades before it should have. They not only were treated to an early death, they were tortured by a monster and his little monster children.
We should have never abandoned the gallows because there are still plenty of monsters like this guy who deserve to be hanged by the neck until dead. The final moment is not at all painful, it’s a mere flip of the medulla switch, lights out. But walking up to the top of gallows, getting the rope fastened around the neck, that’s a harrowing experience and one this guy richly deserved to have. There are plenty more where he came from and making taxpayers pay the expense of holding them in prison for decades makes no sense. It makes no sense to us and I believe it makes no sense to our creator, however you conceive your creator to be.
