Millennials tell pollsters they want socialism. They must be nuts.
Capitalism is the best system of political economy because one can get ahead only by producing goods or services that please other people who are willing to pay for one’s labor, services or products. If you make things or perform services that other people value you will be rewarded. In the process you have not merely enriched yourself, you have improved the lives of others who benefit from what you have done for them. You have more for yourself the more you do things that benefit your fellow man. Capitalism creates harmony among the people who can all benefit from their own industry without taking from others.
Socialism is greed. The individual under socialism does not gain by caring for others. Each individual stands in line with others for a share of the finite goods the rulers have chosen to make available. The individual is not concerned with what share will go to others. He cares only about what he can get, and every gain to him is a loss for others. As a consequence socialism breeds resentment and acrimony among the people. Under socialism the rulers get rich while the people remain poor.
Ben Stein nails it:
We have a society in which there are an awful lot of people who have no idea that Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse-Tung all came to power promising the same kinds of things that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is promising. And it led to mass murder, it led to dictatorship, it led to genocide. These promises are old promises and they invariably lead to bad things. The promise of just saying to the people do what you can within the law to make your life better and your family’s life better – that system works extremely well. Capitalism is a system that allows people to make something of themselves instead of oppressing other people. It’s an incredibly good system.
Making money is one of the most of harmless things there is to do in the whole world. And that’s what our society is about. It’s not about ordering people around, putting them in concentration camps. What do you do if there is a richer or poorer person? What do you do? Do you take him away? Do you shoot him? Well that’s what the Communists tried, it didn’t work out very well for them. And at the end of the day we ended up with Russia as one of the most of unequal societies there’s ever been in the world. In Vietnam, which promised all these things, and we wind up with one of the most of corrupt countries in the world. In Venezuela, I don’t know how corrupt it is but people say it’s one of the most corrupt countries in the world. We don’t wind up with the promises people made.
Socialists always have to resort to force to get their way sooner or later.
In Venezuela the people don’t have toilet paper. They are eating their pets. Alexandria Ocasio-TacoRosada is a naive ill-educated demagogue who poses grave danger to the American dream if enough Americans fall for her vacuous bromides.
But then there is this:
Some Dems Float Idea of Primary Challenge For Ocasio-Cortez. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has infuriated colleagues by aligning with a progressive outside group that’s threatening to primary entrenched Democrats. Now some of those lawmakers are turning the tables on her and are discussing recruiting a primary challenger to run against the social media sensation.
At least one House Democrat has been privately urging members of the New York delegation to recruit a local politician from the Bronx or Queens to challenge Ocasio-Cortez.
“What I have recommended to the New York delegation is that you find her a primary opponent and make her a one-term congressperson,” the Democratic lawmaker, who requested anonymity, told The Hill. “You’ve got numerous council people and state legislators who’ve been waiting 20 years for that seat. I’m sure they can find numerous people who want that seat in that district.”
Lastly: My Twitter account has exploded! I mean, I’m up to 5 followers! Wow! (I once had 12) You can check it out here. Hurry and become a follower before all the spots are taken! If I get to 10 I’ll throw a party. Actually, I’m surprised I still have a Twitter account after all these years and all the conservative pronouncements I’ve made. Maybe they think I’m harmless because I only have 5 actual followers. If I had 5,000 they’d probably cancel me.
