I would and do teach this same technique, usually with a plastic training gun and emphasis on keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction which requires me to change the position of the students relative to me for each side of the pistol. Students sometimes think that grip is a matter of preference, but it isn’t. A proper grip is one of the fundamentals.
