One of Donald Trump’s campaign pledges was to wipe out the brutal MS-13 criminal gang in the United States. MS-13 stands for Mara Salvatruchas-13. Mara Salvatruchas is not translatable into English, a straight translation would come close to “Gang to save trout,” and that’s obviously not a correct meaning of MS-13. The word mara means gang in Caliche slang and is taken from marabunta, the name of a fierce type of ant. Salvatrucha was the name given to the guerrillas who fought in the Salvadoran Civil War. So a close understanding of MS-13 would be “Gang from el Salvador.”
It not necessary to know all that, but I was curious so I researched it. The important thing to know about MS-13 is that it is perhaps the most violent gang in the Western Hemisphere. It’s the sort of gang that young boys who don’t know any better might be drawn to, especially boys from shaky family structures. I can remember when I was about 9 or 10 years old, growing up in a heavily Hispanic community, boys were using ball point pens to draw symbols on their arms or hands that they called “chucha” badges. Chucha [choo – Ka] is Spanish profanity with an indefinite meaning. I never really understood what it meant to those who proudly proclaimed themselves to be Chuchas. I guess it meant they were tough or something. Most young boys go through a phase of wanting to think of themselves and wanting others to see them as tough hombres. This is especially so for young hispanic boys and arises out of the historic machismo culture of Spain, Mexico and Central America.
MS-13 arose out of Los Angeles and has spread across America. It is a brutally violent gang involved in a broad network of criminal activities. Trump has vowed to destroy them, and for that Margaret Hoover of CNN says Trump is a racist promoting white nationalism. She ought to get to know the MS-13 gang. What a dose of reality that would be. Just what useful idiots like her need.
You know, in a truly racist country there is no such thing as a race card.
