Here is the list of things contained in the the recently demised Graham-Cassidy Obamabare repeal act that Senators John McCain, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowsky are blocking.
- Repeal of the individual and employer mandates
- An end to Medicaid expansion in 2020
- Termination of cost-sharing subsidies
- Legalization of association health plans
- A green light for catastrophic coverage
- New life for health savings accounts
- Sudden death for the medical-device tax
- A halt to federal funds for Planned Parenthood, not for good, but for one year
Just what in this list do you oppose Senators?
Everything up there looks pretty good to me. I could defend them one for one. I bet most people could. The only one I’d criticize is halting funds from Planned Parenthood for just one year. It should be permanent. There is no sensible argument for forcing U.S. taxpayers to pay for other people’s abortions, and no matter what they tell you PP exists in the main to perform abortions. It’s the largest abortion provider in the United States.
This list above is what Colorado Democrat Senator Michael Bennet called “disgraceful” in the Senate hearing on the bill. So Senators McCain, Collins and Murkowski, does Democrat Michael Bennet speak for you? Is that a disgraceful list? No, of course not. It’s a list of things most Americans say they want to see in any new healthcare legislation.
“Disgraceful” is what you are doing by denying the American people the right to make their own decisions about their health insurance and their health care.
Politico released a poll showing that a majority of Americans oppose the Graham-Cassidy bill. I wonder if they showed the list above to the respondents. The exact question asked of those polled is not disclosed by Politico. I’d bet dollars to donut holes they didn’t ask respondents if they were opposed to anything on that list. Of course not. They would have obtained a much different result if they had done so.
I’d call that disgraceful.
