Obama The Great Pretender

Dick Cheney made this statement yesterday to Politico:

“As I’ve watched the events of the last few days it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war. He seems to think if he has a low key response to an attempt to blow up an airliner and kill hundreds of people, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of 9/11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he closes Guantanamo and releases the hard-core al Qaeda trained terrorists still there, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gets rid of the words, ‘war on terror,’ we won?t be at war.

“But we are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe. Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war? It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency — social transformation — the restructuring of American society. President Obama’s first object and his highest responsibility must be to defend us against an enemy that knows we are at war.”

Obama Gives Interpol Green Light to Conduct Secret Criminal Investigations of Americans

Obama signed an executive order last week exempting Interpol from constraints that apply to every law enforcement agency in America. Constraints like say, the Constitution, FOIA and other laws and treaties that protect our rights and prevents government agencies from operating in complete secrecy. This is not just about wrecking the health care system, tanking the economy, or making America a laughing stock by the amateurish behavior of its President. This is about our national security and preventing terrorism on American soil. This is about making international criminals out of those who try to protect us from terrorism. It is about giving over our sovereignty to that Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization known as the United Nations and that far left political tool known as the International Criminal Court.

I don’t have the patience to detail it here, but there is no reason for that when you can get the full picture at these sources:

Threats Watch

I, Sniper by Stephen Hunter

I think I’ve read every book Stephen Hunter has written and his latest is I, Sniper. It is just released today so I haven’t read it, but it looks to be a good one. It’s available on Kindle also.

Hunter is fascinated by “the secret physics of gunfights.” His American Gunfight is a 384-page book devoted to the 38-second gunfight that stopped the plot to assassinate President Truman while he was staying in the Blair House on November 1, 1950. Actually, the book covers the entire history of the plot and the two hapless plotters.

I, Sniper is another Bob Lee Swagger novel but apparently has Swagger acting more as a forensics investigator than a sniper. It also, according to an account of the novel by Hunter supplied to the Powerline Blog, is a study of American journalism and the liberal mindset that inflicts nearly all of its current practitioners.

Hunter’s message to Powerline is recommended reading for anyone interested in Hunter’s books. This is what Hunter says about a character in the novel, an aggressive young reporter for The New York Times:

What he doesn’t realize, and the book documents, is that his mindset makes him vulnerable to manipulation. This is what so many young reporters don’t get. Their commitment to an agenda, subconsciously or not , distorts the way they see reality. Thus when they say “We are not biased,” they honestly believe that. They are reporting what they see, but are oblivious to the fact that they are viewing it from a platform that they take for granted.

Hunter claims to have the reputation of being the “Fyodor Dostoyevsky of the sniper novel.” I’m not sure what that would mean, but Nietzsche is reputed to have said that Dostoyevsky’s Notes From the Underground “cried truth from the blood.”

Winchester to Supply ICE With 200 Million Rounds

Winchester gets a contract to supply ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) with 200 million rounds of 135 grain hollow points in .40 caliber pistol ammo over the next five years. One nice thing about a government job would be having all the free ammo you can shoot and a private range to do it.

Paco Enterprises says:

Now, in case the entire population of Mexico tries to cross the border over the next five years, this would be enough to shoot everybody twice;

Clarification Should Come From Obama Administration, Not From Israel, Says J-Post

The IDF (Israeli Defense Force) killed three wanted Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades terrorists in Nablus that were wanted for the murder of an Israeli Rabbi and father of seven. The Obama Administration has made a rare and unusual request for public clarification by Israel’s National Security Advisor to explain the defensive nature of this action. Dan Diker, writing in the Jerusalem Post says it is the Obama Administration that needs to give clarification to Israel.

First, some background on the current state of the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” as it is erroneously and euphemistically referred to in the popular media. Continue reading

Quote of the Day

“Yes, sir, I can. Because why did we do– why do we want a public option? We want a public option to do basically three ten– things: create more choice for insurers, create more competition for insurance companies, and to contain costs.”

–House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) when asked on CBS’ Face the Nation if he could back a healthcare bill that did not have a public option.

All the Democrats and Obama are saying the same thing, they want a healthcare plan that creates more choice and competition in insurance and reduces the cost of healthcare. They have to believe that the American people are very stupid to keep repeating this bilge. Any fool can see and knows that whatever hideous mutation of a healthcare bill finally emerges from the sausage factory of the United States Congress is not going to do any of that. The intended unintended consequences of this horrid legislation are going to be less choice and competition not more, and increased cost of insurance, as well as new taxes out the wazoo.

As to the so-called “public option,” that is just a red herring. The entire healthcare bill is a public option. Clyburn essentially admits as much when he states that it doesn’t matter what we call it. No, it doesn’t matter. You can call a dog a cat if you want but it will still be a dog. You can call a government-run healthcare system a potato or an insurance exchange but it will still be a government-run healthcare system with all the inefficiency and bureaucracy of every other government function. And there is never any private sector competition with any government-run entitlement program.

CNN Viewership Drops by 30% in 2009

CNN falls farther into the tank, with a 30% drop in viewers for 2009. The most watched cable network is USA which has increased viewers by 15%.

Here are the stats for total viewers in primetime for these cable networks (multiply the number next to each network by 1,000,000 if it’s a decimal, by 1,000 if it’s 3-digit number):

USA 3.278 million average viewers +15%
DISNEY 2.534 +6%
ESPN 2.253 +9%
TNT 2.254 +2%
FOX NEWS 2.210 +7%
TBS 1.838 -7%
NICK AT NIGHT 1.734 +2%
A&E 1.467 +8%
ABC FAMILY 1.353 +4%
FX 1.369 +10%
CARTOON 1.302 -3%
SYFY 1.276 -0%
DISCOVERY 1.253 +4%
HISTORY 1.212 +3%
HGTV 1.202 +9%
LIFETIME 1.185 -20%
FOOD 1.119 +26%
HALLMARK 1.104 -18%
AMC 1.041 -6%
TLC 1.070 +18%
TRUTV 1.090 +0%
SPIKE 1.063 -17%
COMEDY CENTRAL 992 -10%

VH1 744 +0%
TVLAND 720 -8%
ESPN2 694 +8%
HBO 693 +41%
E! 592 +7%

I don’t know the proper method of comparing a talk radio show to a cable news network but it appears that at any one time during his 3-hour show Rush Limbaugh has anywhere between 5 times and 20 times the number of listeners than CNN has viewers during primetime.

FOX News has 2.2 million viewers in primetime compared to CNN’s 908,000. What should CNN do to boost its viewership? I don’t know anything about cable television but I have a suggestion for something they might try. That would be doing a little more honest news reporting and a little less liberal propaganda.
