How Medicaid Fails the Poor

Obama says he is getting rid of “junk insurance.” At the top of the list should be Medicaid. Health insurance is not the same as health care. It does no good to have “insurance” if you can’t get a doctor to see you because they won’t work for the pittance Medicaid pays. Thus, the poor don’t have health care.

Yep As a thankfully retired doc you have identified the problem – access. When you get less than 20 cents on the dollar to care for folks who come with complex social and medical issues, are often extraordinarily demanding, and likely to sue you for the slightest bad outcome it is hard to see lots of medicaid. After 30 years of medical practice I can tell you I speak with some experience. It is going to be a real awakening when all the newly signed up medicaid participants find there are not tat many doctors at will see the new flood of these patients. Buena Suete!
