University of Denver Sturm College of Law achieves 91% pass rate for its graduates who took the July bar exam

Yeah, so what you might think and I couldn’t say I blame you if you have no connection to it. But the University of Denver College of Law is my law school from which I graduated in 1976. Since then the law school has moved into plush new digs at the main DU campus and changed its name to the Sturm College of Law. It was a downtown law school across the street from the Denver Court House when I was a student there.

A few years ago DU’s pass rate for first time bar exam takers was a dismal 70%. This was not good. The one thing a law school should be able to do is turn out graduates that can pass the bar exam. That’s the least it must do. The University of Colorado law school was cleaning DU’s clock on bar pass rates.

But the professors and the president of the law school apparently took notice and went to work to correct the problem. For the past four year’s DU’s pass rate has exceeded 88% and this year it bested the University of Colorado which had an 89% pass rate.

So while my law degree, passing two bar exams 30 years apart, bar admissions in two states and five bucks will still only get me a grande latte at Starbucks, I feel a little better about the whole thing.
