This is the chart prepared by the Obama administration in January, 2009, to sell the Obama stimulus plan. The chart purported to show what the unemployment rate would be with and without Obama’s stimulus plan. The red dots show the actual unemployment rate that resulted, and were added to the chart in July, 2012 by James Pethokoukis of the American Enterprise Institute. Now Pethokoukis has prepare a BIG version of the chart, which you can see by clicking the chart below. Expect to see this chart a lot between now and November 6th.
This chart is now a testimonial graphic to the feckless economic theories of Barack Obama.
The unemployment numbers on this chart are much lower than they would be if the labor force had not shrunk so much since Obama took office in January, 2009. As shown by Pethokoukis in the green lettering in the upper right corner of the chart, if the labor force were the same size as when Obama was sworn in, the present unemployment rate would be 11%.
Gallup says August unemployment numbers are not looking good.
