Oprah Winfrey endorsed Obama for President in 2008, something she had never done before. This was a bold move, she had theretofore avoided politics. It came at a crucial time for Obama, it was just what he needed then and the muscle of the biggest woman in entertainment helped his candidacy tremendously. So, he’s eternally grateful, right?
Nope, not at all. These days, Oprah doesn’t exist for either Barack or Michelle Obama.
Ed Klein’s new book The Amateur quotes Oprah, in response to why she’s being stiff-armed by the Obamas, ”Michelle hates fat people and doesn’t want me waddling around the White House.”
Michelle judges people by their body size, another quote found in Klein’s book attributed to Michelle Obama:
Oprah only wants to cash in using the White House as a backdrop for her show to perk up ratings. Oprah with her yo-yo dieting and huge girth, is a terrible role model. Kids will look at Oprah, who’s rich and famous and huge, and figure it’s okay to be fat.
Cruel, and ungrateful.
Oprah has since fallen out of favor in the entertainment world faster than hula hoop sales. She’s still a billionaire and one of the richest women in the world, but her television network has bombed and she’s not in demand anywhere.
Fame can be awfully fragile. As just about everything Obama touches.
